On January 9, 2017, my husband Scott Marks was sworn in as the new mayor of Medicine Lake, Minnesota. What an honor to witness this ceremony! The kids also attended, because, of course, it isn’t every day that you get to see your dad take an oath of office.
The ceremony was pretty routine and seriously low-key. We even got to have a little spot of cake. Yet, the importance of the oath that he took was not lost on me.
Scott has taken on some pretty significant responsibilities, albeit for a town of less than 500 people. Medicine Lake is a small, idyllic and somewhat quirky town in the middle of a huge metro area. But we are an independent municipality. Medicine Lake broke off from suburban Plymouth, Minnesota in 1944. As a city, we face real issues that mostly involve how to allocate our precious financial resources.
I think Scott is a great man to take on this burden. He is responsible, smart, organized, and a good decision maker. He is logical yet compassionate.
Good luck leading our city, Scott! Always remember why you are doing this. Your success is our success!

Congrats! What an interesting part of genealogy that will be to come across in 50, 100 or 150 years.

Thanks, Becky! I really do hope that someone will come across this in 50 years. I feel like I study the past so much, but I can’t lose track of the present, either. Thanks for reading.
